AutoMeter Ultra-Lite gauges

UPS man just dropped off my brand new Ultra-Lite boost and pyrometer gauges today. Anybody have any tips for installation? The included directions seem kind of vague and the downloadable directions on the AutoMeter website are exactly the same as what they give you in the box. I'm getting my MBRP exhaust installed tomorrow so I'll probably have the guy drill and tap my manifold for the EGT probe. Thanks guys!

Its pretty straight forward I would try dieselmanor.com for some instructions they seem to have some pretty good ones. Going to replace that banks chip sometime soon .

haha, Yeah man I will get right on that as soon as the Great State of Delaware desides to reverse its 8% wage cut for state employees.

I have the same guages very easy to install. What do you need to know?
Well its just that my old truck was an old 7.3 IDI so everything was simple. Now with my 02 7.3 there are alot more electronics so I know nothing about electronics. A couple of my buddies work for a body shop and have done plenty of wiring so they are going to help me with the install. I just want to make sure it's done right and with no problems.

Also, how hard is it to drill and tap for the EGT probe. I want to make sure my exhaust guy will have no problems installing it for me.

Its not hard at all, just make sure that when its drilled, its at an angle in which that the probe and wires wont be hitting anything. I would also suggest leaving the engine running at idle while you drill that hole. Or once you drill almost all the way through, you can dip the drill bit tip into grease to hold the metal shavings and keep them out of there too. Both work.

Why would you leave it running at idle? Wouldn't that send any shavings toward the turbo? But anyways, a guy who owns an exhaust shop should be able to do it no problem, right?

Dieselmanor has the best instructions i've seen to date, prolly other directions but this is what I used. Take your time when drilling, start with a small bit then work up from there. Before we go any farther, did you get the drill bit and tap set for that pyro???

You ever held your hand over a small exhaust leak? you know how you can feel it puffing air out the hole? Aslong as you drill slowly and make small metal shavings instead of pushing and lettin it dig in, once it starts to poke through, the Exhaust will just puff those shavings out away from the hole to the outside. And yes, he should be able to do it. Its not hard, 5/16'' hole, tap with 1/8'' pipe tap. Just put a little grease on the tap flutes and it will keep those out of the inside of the header.

Drilling the manifold is one of the easier parts of the job.

Be sure and post some pics! i'm going to have to get new gauges soon.......I jacked my 35psi DiProcol boost gauge first time I got on it after the motor build, now it only reads about half what actual psi is

Lol yea, finding the best way to run wires where they wont get caught on something, or burnt or cut is probably more important in my opinion.

You wouldn't have believed the rag tag wiring jobs, especially for lights that some of those equipment have. I wont even tell the story of 20ft wire vs A/C condenser fan blade lol

One of these days were going to have to have a beer and swap stories. I can imagine the messes that you saw in the mines. It seems that any job in a cruddy area seems to end up being hacked up.
