Hello all, I have a 2000 F250 SD 5.4 with the 5 spd manual.169000km.So the problem is that when I shift into 3rd I get this clicking sound, almost like an exhaust leak but it isnt as I have already cheked that. This has been happening now for about a week and has been only a nuisance but today while travelling up the hill to work the truck started jerking and almost sounds as if it is missing..Got to work checked it out couldnt find anything wrong further test drives show nothing. It seems to be only in 3rd and I am getting frustrated...any help would be appreciated.
try it again with OD off, it could be the TC lock up fooling you. I would also put a scanner on it and watch the trans temp to see where it's running when it starts acting up.
Not a bad idea except I have a 5 speed manual tranny.....also I forgot to mention that it is also noticeable in 2nd gear but not as much as in 3rd..thanks for any information.
I breezed right past the manual in your first sentence. I don't think there is as much in a manual transmission. Check your fluid level, if it's good and you have noises, you probably have a bearing going out. With a little luck it's the throwout bearing and sounds noisier in 3rd because of load and resonant frequencies.
thanks alot I will check the levels and probobly do a full tune up. I am a new Ford owner and am trying to figure it all out.....thanks for the patience...also just wondering if changing the manual hubs to WARN will be a crappy job thanks in advance.
I recall warn had a specific shim or nut that had to be used, but the install looked like cake from their instructions. I wouldn't bother with the warn standard hubs as an upgrade, the premium hubs would be more of an upgrade.
Check your spark plugs. You still have the early head design with few threads holding the plugs in. I had an exhaust leak style ticking a couple months ago and then started missing a little bit. My plug was getting ready to blow out.
Yes...thanks alot. after reading a bunch of history that is my next step.I have already started the anti seize soak that I was told about.this is a really great forum thanks for the help.
