Glowplug connectors

My neighbour bought a 85 with a 6.9.
His glowplugs are shot and I was going to get him some on Ebay but all the ones I find on Ebay have round connectors .
The glowplugs in the old truck have a flat bar/blade type connector.
Anyone else ran into this problem and what did you do?

You need the spade ones the others have a different resistent I understand.
Use only motorcraft beru's other brands have been known to fail in just a few starts and also swell and that complicates things.

You can use AC 12G or Autolite 1109 glowplugs in your engine with the spade terminals. They temperature limiting so you will not have to worry about burning them up. I would advise you to preheat them before you install them to make sure they will not suffer infant failure. Connect them to 12V, a battery or better yet, a charger. Let hem heat up until they are red hot. The Alumina insulation that is packed around the heating coil can absorb moisture from storage and when heated it will expand with disastous results. I had 7 out of 8 new plugs fail in this way when I replaced them in my '85 6.9. Autolite warranteed them. The second set was OK, I connected them up for about half the time it took to get red hot. Then I let them cool. I cycled them this way twice before I allowed them to get red hot. ThenI installed them and have had no problem. My motto is an ounce prevention is worth a pound of cure. I also know it's a pain to remove a bulged GP.

Haven't seen you around in a little while, Marianna2003.

Sadly I never had the chance to try out any of those glow plugs since I can't source them locally. Bosch also makes a high output dual coil glow plug that I heard good things about. Some day I'll do some testing on them and post the results. Beru plugs are good, but they will burn out if they are left on too long. Would sure be nice to have a better option.

Vinford:

Here is a thread that I started a long time ago to compile a list of confirmed reliable sources for Beru/motorcraft glow plugs. If you want, you can also try the dual coils that marianna mentioned, but they probably won't work with a stock controller.

Rock auto and FTE parts guy (site sponsors) also carry them in the $10usd/ea range. If you are really stuck, then a local ford dealer should have them, but expect to pay close to $30 each.
