Potential Method to Clear P1000 Code
While searching for ways to evaluate the EVAP system on my truck (I have a gas smell in my cab), I ran into this. Ford Motor Company Driving Cycle
It describes the actions necessary to clear the P1000 code.

for your gas smell, check out the TSB's for the Econoline. Ford had to issue a TSB to fix a gas smell in them. Same motor and everything, but for some reason no-one has applied it to the F-150, even though some guys are experienceing the same issue
From what I understand, they had a bad batch of injector o-rings. The #5 and #7 cylinder ones would leak and the evaporated fumes would enter the cab. The TSB basically said to replace all the injector o-rings
