hi i'm new here what i would like to know is i rebuilt my c6 trans (1st one) i'm getting ready to put it back in, when i go to put it in should i prefill the new (remanufactured)converter with fluid before installing? Thanks
Really, it's ok to fire up with a dry torque converter??
That is something against what I have always been told or seen, I have always been told to fill it!
In fact recently on one of the powerblock shows they said to fill it first.
I dunno know, I am no Automatic Guru, I hate them! (Just a personal pref)
We never fill them first, in any make or model, Ford, Honda, MB,BMW,ect.
When you rebuild a converter, you would use a lubricant on the bearings and all converters should be balanced full of fluid anyways, so there the clutch (if equipped) would get a presoak.
Bottom line if it makes you feel better to pour a quart in, do it you wont hurt it, but it might get messy.
I wasn't arguing ... I did say "I said I dunno know"!
I know nadda about Automatics and don't care to.
It's just what I've always understood, and I did just see one of them shows fill theirs with Royal Purple, I think they did only put a qt in it.
Pre lubed, understood!...
Cool, Learn something new everyday!
As far as adding a qt... NOT ME! because I won't be stuffing no Automatics anywhere except in the dumpster!
Just a personal preference, they are fine for those that like them, I hold nothing against those that like them, I just don't like them!
Ford builds A LOT of transmissions every day. Each one of them has a dry torque converter installed. The converter is filled when the trans is filled and run.
