Anyone with an older Ford knows of the infamous box under the hood right past the emergency jack.
My problem is, my Ignition Module keeps blowing anfd leaving me stranded. i am on my 4th or 5th one now and it just blew up on me tonight...on the interstate.
So my question lies, does any one make a heavy duty module?
MSD maybe?
And what the heck is causing this to happen so frequently?
I will leave it to you experts, Thanks in advance. - Jones
If you've blown that many modules, you have a voltage regulation problem. You have a problem with your charging system that is blowing otherwise good modules. Use a multimeter to check the voltage across the battery terminals while the engine is running, and report back. You must use a multimeter to solve this problem, so if you don't have one, it's time to get one. We can't move forward until we know the voltage to which your charging system settles.
Don't waste money on an upgraded ignition system, because the underlying problem will still exist.
I also forgot to mention that this is the second regulator i put in this truck. but it does seem like a logical problem. On my way to O'reilly's now...(or some place that has motorcraft)
I'm also going to get a meter and I'll get back with the results.
You should also test the pick up module in the dizzy. Many people replace this and the ignition module as a set, to be sure one isn't causing the other to fail. There are procedures for testing in the manual. A meter will be necessary.
I had a similar problem with blowing modules when I bought my truck. Found out that when the p/o upgraded the dissy to electronic from points he didn't upgrade the coil. Put a coil for electronic ignition in and haven't had a problem since.
Well I found a definite problem. After changing out my regulator and module, it still wouldnt fire.
Should have done this first, but i tested the coil for fire. Nothing. Took the plug wire off of the coil and over half of my Blaster 2 electrode is blown off...
I have a 1994 F-150 and most of the time when it rain it runs like a tank. I have changed the rotor, wires etc., but it still runs bad only on rainy days. i am wondering if my ignition module could be the issue?
Welcome to FTE. The ignition system on your era truck is different than the trucks in this forum. Try posting this in the 87-96 forum; as you'll be able to get some more year-specific information there.
