Hello every one,
I have a 04 X with the 6.0 and a stupit warranty in my way. With the cat and muffler on the truck is realy cloged up while towing the big 13,000 lb toy hauler. I am scared of them voiding my warranty if I do a full exhaust so here is my idea. Just buy a 4 inch down pipe and put a turn out tip on it so the funes and sound go out the side. Right now I just have the cat off of it and the stock down pipe and when I take it to the delar I just clean the soot off the bottom the the truck and throw the cat on. If I did it this way when I take it to the delar I put the stock down pipe on and cat and I am good. Is this a good idea?
Thanks
Nick
Keep in mind Nick, smog checks start on our California trucks in 2010, so you want to be able to put that cat back on for when you get tested. Turbo back with a cat delete "test" pipe would make that a snap.

The smog checks are for vehicles with a gvwr of 8501 or less. So our trucks should be exempt. But you just never know what CARB has up their sleeve.
you cant remove the factory downpipe with out cutting it out. At least I have never heard of anyone being able to do it. I had to cut mine just about the bend to do it
Wow. I can understand making the law for all new vehicles from the date it goes into effect but forcing previous owners to change and spend $ on their vehicles to meet their standards or "retire" their vehicle is bull&#@$!!
Just another reason why California needs to fall off into the ocean....

Yeah, that retire the vehicle part is pretty lame.
I ain't worried about sliding into the ocean - I can swim.

And that was the reason I had to trade in my 1987 f250 460 gasser. It would not pass smog. It would have cost more than the truck was worth to make it pass. And at over 190k she was still running strong. It was a sad day. If we fall into the ocean at least I have a sailboat so I can stay afloat.
Heh, I think here in GA if you spend up to a certain amount of $ trying to fix the issues to make it pass emissions then you get a pass and don't have to pass it. But to force someone to retire a vehicle that runs fine because of some new law is just crap. It's like them forcing everyone who's house doesn't pass current codes to update them and if they can't then demolish the house. People bought something expecting not to have to keep their vehicle up to date with laws and regulations that weren't even written yet. You guys should rally up a petition.
