My truck is a California model with 3 connectors and a Yellow insulator.

I'll see what I can find by that, as some parts stores only have descriptions.

Is the module a Motorcraft? If so...it will have an ID number on it.

Unless you have an ID number...to be sure...I need to know: What year, series is this? 300 engine?

My California model has a yellow strain relief/grommet and 3 sockets.

Does it require all 3 sockets?

Which part number do I need, after I take it off and have it tested?
Is the part number on the module?

I also had a rebuilt distributor installed last fall.

I also have my VIN available if that helps.

'83 4.9L six what?

F100? F150? F250?

If the module is a Motorcraft it will have an ID number, not a part number on it.

There are no parts lists for modules, emission related parts, some fuel related parts after 1979.

Everything must be looked up by the trucks specific Calibration Code.

There may be as many as 30 (!!) for one particular vehicle.

To avoid looking thru myriad fracatta Calibration Code parts lists...

I need the exact series of truck, and..if possible, the ID number off the old module.

'83 4.9L six F-150- Regular cab-8 ft box-California truck, now in Oregon, with no intention of it going back to California.

I'll pull the module off and see what it is.

I unbolted the module today.
It's a Standard Parts module.
I looked it up on their website by VIN and it show an LX-214, for California Ford Light Truck 81-87.
My VIN begins with 1FTEF15Y and their listing begins with 1986, so i followed that through for the Standard part number.
They also list an LX-214T but they don't say what the difference is.

What is the secret to disconnecting the 3 connectors?
I don't seem to have enough hands.

Wanna know what the Ford shop manual says? Grab the wires on either side of one
connector and pull 'em apart. I'm always afraid of pulling the wires out of the connector
housings and use tiny little screwdrivers or sumthin to hold up those little tabs that
surround the, um, whatddya call it... the risen part that fits in the center of the tab?

Is there a tool made for separating them?

I try real hard not to separate anything by grabbing the wires and pulling them apart.

You need a Duraspark module with a yellow grommet. Take the old module in with you. they can ID the module by the color grommet, or the ID number on the part as numberdummy said earlier.

Very, very, very true! The plastic components at this age are pretty fragile and break
easily, ya gotta be careful.

I finally got the module out and had it tested at NAPA.
It was checked twice and was bad.
I have a new one due in, tomorrow.
