at the beginning of a 2 hr trip the voltage needle started bouncing back and forth, then the battery light came on and the needle went to low. periodically throughout the trip the light would turn off and the needle would go back to the middle and stay there for 10 minutes or so, then repeat the whole process.
a quick check produced no loose or frayed wires. with the truck running, i pulled the negative battery cable and the truck continued to run. and the battery tested at 13.8-9 volts. any ideas?
97 F250, the battery is ~5 months old, and the alternator is a rebuilt 105 amp from checker.
I would suspect the alternator is intermittent. I would get another. By the way that is not good practice to take the battery cable off with the engine running. You might let the smoke out of something
