Needle is on the " N" of normal, on guage display, and today i needed to jump start the truck. Batteries are 2 years old, but truck has only been running since the fall. Do I need to remove the alt to test is? Thank you,
and Happy Memorial Day!

Bring in both your batteries and have them Load Tested. If you arent getting enough CCA it won't run.
When removing the alternator, be careful not to break the tab that holds the electrical plug on. Other than that its not too hard. Hardest part was getting the belt off. (1/2" drive on the pully tensioner will take care of that.)
I brought my alternator and batteries to Napa and Advance when I was having issues.... Batteries were bad. One had a bad cell, the other just wansn't holding a charge.
My alternator tested fine, although it has a crack all the way across the housing.
You can check your alternator with a volt meter with eng running and after your glowplugs have cycled out you should get a reading of 13.8 to 14.6 at the red wire on back of alt . If you have less than 13 then pull the alt I would check all my conections and both the grounds that go from the batteries to eng .You can check your batteries with a hydrometer or you can check the standing voltage once your batteries are charged up disconet them and then let them sit overnite and check the voltage in them 12.4 is ok more is better less is not have you checked the water in your bateries use distilled water not tapp water your batteries dont like chlorine
