mines a chilton label locations are on the drivers side valve cover near the front, and standing at the front of the engine, next to, on the right hand side of the oil filler tube... i cant tell you what the numbers mean, but i garentee that someone else will...

yeah i saw those numbers but when i went to clean them off it got all gummed up and i didnt go any further. I will get the wire brush out and get them, then we will definitely know!! Anyone know where to take those numbers?

The numbers are to the drivers side of the ip gear housing (oil fill tube). It is flat and level. The only part of the # you need to know is the very first part....either starting with 6.9U or 7.3U...that will tell you what the engine is for sure.

Dave S. deciphered my # and told me my block was the newer casting not prone to cracking:

3d u2 u5 09273 and after that there is a * looking symbol. no idea but is the 73 at the end the engine size?

***EDIT it is 7.3d in the front, had some buildup and it is gone now to clearly state 7.3d***

are these numbers on the IP gear cover? Mt 6.9 would say its a 7.3 if you looked at the IP cover since I had to change it for the Tach sensor.
