Really? My 29 gallon rated tank, if I take my time, I can get 31 gallons in it almost every time I run it down. I would think you 38 gallon guys/gals could at LEAST get 40 in yours, but I guess the different configuration means no go.

That's because the filler and vent tubes stick several inches down into the tank (4-6" of PVC IIRC). This will shut off the pump prior to being full giving you a capacity rating of 28 gallons. If you keep clicking the pump to "top it off" you can get a couple of more gallons in there. If you go in and clip those tubes (known as the "hutch" mod) you can get several more gallons in the tank. I routinely put 30 gallons in (and the low fuel light isn't even on) on fill-up on my "28" gallon tank on my short bed and go nearly 500 miles between fill-ups.

Oh yeah Brian, I am fully aware of the Hutch and Harpoon issues. It's definitely on my "to-do" list. I just thought the big tank trucks had the same issue us 29 gallon guys did.

My bad. It's the 'harpoon' mod, not the 'hutch' mod. I did them at the same time so I keep getting them backwards. The 'harpoon' clips the tubes in the tank and the 'hutch' mod fixes a lot of the air introduction to the suction of the fuel pump. I don't recommend dropping the tank just for the 'harpoon', but if you're already in there, it's worth the 2 minutes to clip those PVC pipes.
