Speedometer Problems
Hi all. The truck is a 87 f150 with a 4.9l 4 speed manual trans 4x4. Ever since i bought the truck the speedo and odometer didnt work. I was bored today and was curious and was checking some stuff out. My RABS light had been on but i took out the bulb because it was annoying. I checked the plug and wires and all was well with that. I found the cable for the speedo and seen that it led to a connector which goes to the transfer case. I'm guessing this is the speed sensor. I tried taking the sensor out the transfer case and when i took off the one bolt for the bracket only the bracket came out, the sensor with the cable and the wires appears to be broken off, and there is still a piece in the hole on the transfer case. Now, I'm pretty sure this is my problem with the speedo. Does it seem as if though i will for sure have to get a whole new sensor for the transfer case and wrestle the old one out that is stuck in there? And will changin the sensor on the rear diff be a neccesity? Thanks guys.

The one on the rear end has nothing to do with the speedometer.
Yes you will have to "wrestle the old one out that is stuck in there".
Yes that is more than likely your problem and you will have to replace it.
