thats what i figured but wouldnt i have had the batterie light or anything let me know that it was going.. what kind of brand should i go for with a new alternater.
If you have a failed diode in the alternator (1 of 3) it will put out 2/3 the normal. Given some inefficient frequent stop and starting it probably won't put enough power to quickly charge the batteries and end up low enough to not start.
The 2 of 3 diodes will sometimes not give you the light. If you have a scope you could see the output with a missing pulse.
Correct change the alternator. Brand. I use new OEM parts.
If you have run your batteries down I highly recommend you leave all electrical not needed items off until your batteries have about 20 minutes to recharge. There is a risk on some alternators trying to full charge the run down batteries and full driver electrical load that alternators can overheat and fail. So just keep the a/c, radio etc off for about 20 minutes after start up to help out the alternator a bit.
