Not sure of dimensions, alhtough I can easily measure them. I know I am cutting a corner... new clips are the best choice....just a pain to get them.....100 mile drive, or mail-order. I'm not sure hardware store variety c-clips are a good idea, so need automotive quality ones.
The old ones I were installed about 10 years ago (new) and the engine has just under 5000 miles on it.
Engine broke a piston (due to timing mark error on slipped damper) and am in process of rebuilding with overbore and new pistons. And "oops", not enough c-clips.
I suppose I wanted to cut corners......as I guess that the majority of engines that get rebuilt without needing to be bored, get the old pistons "with old c-clips" installed. I admit, it's a hard question to answer ...i.e. "what you should do" vs "what I would do" sort of thing.
I'd replace them. It's wayy too common to have a clip break/fall out and have a pin scuff a cylinder(or blow up). Much cheaper to spend a few bucks and days to do it right.
I don't even use stock clips anymore. Double Spiro Locs only. It's a double pain, but cheap insurance.
Guess I can try the Ford dealer ..... he should have tons of vintage C3 stuff kicking around.......chuckle.
ps: By the way, I just noticed my 1966 Ford Manual uses the following words with regards to these retainer clips....in 3 seperate places in the manual......."discard", "replace", "insert new"
No luck at Ford dealer. Local Machine Shop (where I won't get work done...dont' ask) had 5. Have to be careful....there's another type that looks the same, but is too thin...typically Hardware Store stuff. Still looking locally....at least it's a nice day outside to be drving aorund town.
I was talking to a Ford Parts Rep a few years back. He said if there is sales thoruhgout the year, thewy keep making parts. He gave me the exmple of hood catches for a Model T, whihc are still available. Apparently they are still in demand, although probably not for Model Ts very often.

Take it easy ND, that Ford rep may have been making it up to make a point, but are you sure? Do you have a P/N for those latches? Anyway, what he said seemed to agree with Krewat's post, so I mentioned it.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up on the clip avialability. I did manage to finally get 8 new ones from the local (ugh) Machine Shop. But I was getting desperate. I was even thinking of trying to buy old stock from the US gov't under NSN 5365-00-145-5047
By the way, can you find me NOS on a C6AE-6007-359J ? I'd even take a C6AE-6007-363S instead.
