I have found that when re-installing the spider it is easier if you have one boot on the plenum and the opposite boot on the spider. JMHO
Good tip, I dont do good with frustration. But then again it makes me drink more beer.

Another good tip!! That would probably make me release that beer or remove my seat cover from the pucker factor.
Chris on another thread Brandon suggested the Gunk degreaser worked really well. I think I am going to start with that and after the new boots go on I'll trhy to maintain it with a monthly simple green?
Thanks guys, mine has that ugly yellowish stain on it. Drives me nuts.
Mine has that too! I guess i'll find out if the gunk gets it off or not. If you try it before I do let me know if it works, I'm gonna give it a try this weekend-I hope!
I used a couple coats of that Grill/Oven cleaner stuff. Kind of like Easy-Off, but I found it at Home Depot for cleaning grills, too. Here's a before/after:

I *REALLY* like the wire wheeled look, Robin. May have to pull mine off again...

Thanks Joe,
That is the spider I got from Kris when I did the turbo upgrade. It was painted red and when I took the wire wheel to it I liked what I saw as the paint came off. Once all the paint was off I used a less stiff wire wheel and just feathered it out.
The oven and/grill cleaner works good too, especially for the baked on crud.

Yes, by all means tighten the clamps, a lot. after installing new boots I test drove and everything was great. But, when I hooked up the 5er i blew the boot off on the first hard pull. scared my mule, i'll tell you that.
