So anyone ever seen this before?

Ford F250 Performance Chips

I called to see if it is for gas or diesel trucks and the guy on the other end of the line said it is only for fuel injected trucks and works for both the 5.4L and the 5.8L, but the vague description on the website and the one picture leaves me wondering. What can it really do? It doesn't seem to be at all like any actual tuner or programmer I've ever seen, and it connects to the PCM using only spade connectors??? WTF mate. I'm now quite curious. Does anyone know anything about these? I have no plans to purchase one, I just want to know what the deal is with them. They seem to offer the same 'chip' for a HUGE array of makes and models.

Upon further investigation they say it wires ''seamlessly'' into the IAT, which leads me to believe it is simply a resistor with a fake **** on it, that fools the IAT into thinking it its getting more air than it truly is??

Sounds like the "performance chip" my friend put on his Grand Am GT... didn't do jack.

I looked at a BMW forum where a guy dyno'd his E39 series with and without a similar style 'chip' and it actually made ~5HP more WITHOUT it

In any case, let this thread serve as a heads up to anyone who may stumble across PCD in their travels. Not trying to knock them as a company because maybe they have good intentions and they could be great people for all I know, but their product seems like a gimmick to me. Kinda like the 10K resistor mod for diesels, but more expensive and for gassers!

At 2:08 A.M. whilst watching Curb Your Enthusiasm and pondering about things, I had an epiphany. This PCD thing is nothing more than a potentiometer/rheostat in a fancy housing; simply an elaboration on the IAT resistor mod. The potentiometer is simply an adjustable resistor. They just put it in a fancy box with the word MAX on it. One could probably make something just like this for under $10 at RadioShack. Mystery solved!

That is exactly what it is. You can get a 10K pot from Radio Shack an do the same thing like you said.

So my friend seems convinced that this mod works wonders on pre-OBDII vehicles and rather than ordering one I convinced him we build one and try it on HIS car, a 1995 Ford Probe, so I went to Radio shack today and picked up a 10K POT, a DPST switch, a 3"x2"x1" project enclosure, and an aluminum ****. Total cost? $12!! We've got wire and connectors already. The theory behind the switch is that if turned to the 'on' position it will offer the path of least resistance, completely bypassing the potentiometer, and in the 'off' position the path of least resistance will be *through* the potentiometer.

Assembly will begin tomorrow. I remain extremely skeptical and intend to prove him wrong.

Are you going to wire the switch as a shunt to bypass the pot?
