U-joint alignment on a lifted Bronco
U-joint alignment on a lifted Bronco
I'm currently running about 5" of lift on my 89 Bronco with
35 x 12.50 tires. I've picked up a little bit of a vibration under acceleration - feels like its right under the seat.(I didn't have this vibration until I lifted the back of the bronco to make it level). Looking at the U-joint angles, it looks good at the rear end - just about straight on. At the t-case, the angle looks a little more acute.
The question is this - can I lower the transmission crossmember a little - say 3/8" - 1/2"? I know this will affect clearances somewhat at the front of the motor and possibly the linkage for the C6.
Has anybody else done this or or have any experience with this (good or bad)?
Vibration comes and goes at different rpms-usually on acceleration. Don't really notice it while cruising.
Driveshaft has been out and the U joints were okay. Made sure it went back in the same way it came out. My other thought is that it might be the bearings on the output shaft of the t-case. If it's the t-case, I'm wondering if it's cost effective to rebuild it, or just replace it with a salvage yard unit.
Looking at the crossmember, it appears it would be fairly easy to move the it to under the frame - space it down just a bit, and use some grade 8's to put it back together.
