89 Bronco - code 18 - HELP!!

It's an 89 Bronco, 351 motor, C-6 transmission, and my daily driver back to work and such.

Tracked down what originally seemed to be just a fuel pump/relay problem. Replaced those and it was good to go.

Unfortunately, doesn't seem to be the extent of the problem. Bronco will sometimes start-run for a few miles. Go run an errand and come back out and
it just cranks. Wait an hour or so, it'll start and run for a few miles. Got it home today, check the low voltage on the coil, coil wire resistance, primary cicuit voltage, etc..... no luck.

Pulled the codes and got the 18 - open spout circuit.
Time to replace the module in the distributor??
Any help/ideas/places to start looking?

Thanks to any and all that can help -

Sounds heat related, so it could be the module. You might want to check the wiring going to the module too. When it cools off, it starts, so it sure does sound like the module.

Engine code 18 - revisited

Went out this morning - bronco started right up. I think your right as re:
the problem being heat related (it was about 25 degrees here last night).
Looks like I'll be pulling the distributor this weekend and replacing the
module and the stator along with the cap and rotor (I mean, as long as
I've got it all out....).

I'll check the codes after it's all back together and see what's what...

Thanks

I have had a code 18 on my 85 F150 (5.0 EFI) for the last year. No problems but it bugs me (and yes I have reset the codes).
