Battery light

2000 - 7.3 X - Bulldog chip

The interior lights were left on and the batteries were drained. I charged it the next day and about two driving hours later the charge light came on and the generator had to be replaced. The charging system is charging fine now (2 days) but the red battery light on the panel never went out. I cleared the codes for the heck of it but the light is always on.

Any help or info would be appreciated.

On the top of your alternator make sure that the plug that runs that light is ok. Sometimes the come loose or have a bit of corrosion. I would have the batteries load tested also to make sure that they are still good. How old are the batteries.

They are about two yrs old.

I will check the plug. If there is no connection, will the light will stay on, or does the connection provide current to run the light?

When the plug is disconnected the light comes on.

I think you hit the problem. I pushed it on it a hurry between storm cells. I'm out the door to check.

I hope that is it much cheaper than a new set of batteries!!!!

Thanks Jim. The batteries are OK and the plug checked out as well. I believe the problem may be in the generator failing to send the signal so I am bringing it back to Auto Zone tomorrow for an exchange.

Let us know how you made out. Some of the Auto Zone rebuilt alternators have been know to have issues from the box.

As well as some of the NEW DuraLast Gold's.... I went through 3 before I got a stable one. Had it not been a Sunday I would've coughed up the dough and went to my dealer. I've never had good luck with aftermarket alternators.
