78/79 Front Bumper Brackets?
I looked thru FIVE Ford parts catalogs, and could find no listings for the 17980 brackets on anything else but certain 1978/79 4WD's.
The questions are: Did you buy this truck brand new, or have you known its entire history since it was assembled?
It could have been hit at one time, the owner or a body shop could have gone to a junkyard, got the parts from a 4WD and installed them.
A body shop could have called a junkyard, ordered the parts...the junkyard sent them parts off a 4WD.
Body shops...even back then would install used parts to save THEM a buck.
What they have done for decades, is charge new parts out on repair orders, but replace with used parts.
When the insurance companies began to crack down on this illicit practice by demanding copies of the dealers parts invoices, body shops got (get) around this by ordering new parts from the dealers...then....they send some of them back.
Meanwhile, they still have the original invoice from the dealers that shows they bought NEW parts.

mikestrucksalvage.com is another possible source.
I looked for new braces at all the Ford dealers, obsolete parts vendors...no one had any.
I have access to the in-house Ford Dealer Parts Locator System. By typing the part number(s) into the website..whatever dealer has them...comes up on the screen.
I also have the obsolete parts vendors world-wide website. It operates the same way.
