F series rear bumper

Need some information on a rear step bumper. I have seen some 73-79 Fords with a step bumper that appeared to be press formed. The step part was not a separate piece, but looked as though it was molded when the rest of the bumper was made. Was this an OEM piece, or an aftermarket. Was trying to find one, but wasn't sure if it was a ford part or what.

This chrome step bumper could be either factory or dealer installed. There was also a painted version.

But, there are two different types of these step bumpers, as it depends on the width of the inner frame rails behind the cab.

F100/150's, F250 2WD's have 37 1/2" rear frame rails. F250 4WD's & F350's have 33 1/2" rear frame rails.

The bumper brackets are also specific to these two rear frame rail widths.

Aftermarket step bumpers usually have their brackets welded on.

Here's a pic of this bumper. It's isn't the best, but it's better than nothing.

HIO, thanks for fixing the link. So 77&79, I assume you were referencing the bumper with the tread plate top? What about the contoured bumper on the green truck in the pics? I've seen them in both chrome and white, there could have been others. I like that bumper, but it must be rare.

That style rear bumper I do believe was an aftermarket bumper. Not Ford.

I would love to come across one of these bumpers for my truck. Or better yet the other style that looks very similar. Except that the center horizontal section is recessed instead of raised like in this picture.

Pic of bumper in post 1 is genuine Ford. I recognize it cuz I passed out dozens to bodymen and new car get ready guys when these trucks were new.

Same bumper was on a 1979 F150 Lariat Stupor Cab I bought new.

The license plate lamps are the same as 1973/78 full sized Ford & Mercury station wagons.

Bona fides: See parts catalog pic I posted in post 4 of the same little darlin.'

Step bumper pictured in post 5 with the crease thru the center is a "gypo" (aftermarket).

"Gypo" ~ Not genuine Ford, an aftermarket replacement part usually bought from auto parts stores.

Here on the west coast, there were many suppliers of aftermarket step bumpers. The Fey Bumper Co. predominated.
