I'm still assisting my nephew getting his F100 "road-ready". So after changing brakes, shocks and tires we've discovered that he also has a broken leaf spring pack on the driver side.
My question is: Would there be a another year/model leaf spring pack that would bolt in under his '79? It seems I'm having some difficulty finding a local salvage yard that has a complete pack to replace his broken one with.
I would think that would be an easy item to find at salvage. Any '73-'79 pack 2wd pack should work.
Around here, most of the salvage yards seem to thin out vehicles that are 15+y/o

This made me think of another question... with his "Tired" suspension...
I noticed what seemed to be a coil spring on the passenger side (Iirc), but there is not one under the driver side- Does this sound factory-OEM?
It seems to be mounted to the same planes as the leaf springs are (also Iirc)
When I see my nephew (hopefully tomorrow) I'll snag a pic of it and post.
I'll look for some new leaf springs too. Any suggestions?

The driver's side coil spring is missing?! That is dangerous. There's no such thing as having one coil on only one side. Both sides must have coils in front. I'd get new coils (both) in the front if one went missing!
The 1450 lb springs total to 2900 lbs, which is correct for a F100 with a 9".
Haven't bought leaf springs before...but I'd go with brand names.

REAR... is where this spring is (and its missing counter part?). Iirc, it mounts to the same surfaces/planes as the leaf springs. I hope I can confirm this today.

These coil springs are offered in a variety of sizes and
offer excellent ride quality, control and longevity. Fits
1973-79 Pick-ups and 1978-79 Broncos (sold in pairs).
Same page for the coil springs, and I agree with Chad, one spring WTF, there should be 2 one each side, and if there are springs in the rear it probably had a lift kit put on, again go to BRONCO Graveyard site. (there still should be one per side, and whoever did it didn't do it right coil springs are for the front)
I don't know any 2wd's that have a coil spring in the rear. Maybe it was some type of overload spring. I would replace the leaf pack and yank the coil spring(s). We still have several old salvage yards around here with the leaf packs, but If you are willing spend $200-300, go for new.
coils in the rear are overloads... that's what were under my ranger when it was bought a few years ago. as for springs, any 2wd w/the same width from 73-79 will work
Oh, okay...in that case, I'd just remove the overloads entirely as it's no longer 100% functional.
I felt the same way about it.
Thanks for the search Marc. Jeff's was one of the ones I first dug into last night about finding a set. Everyone else seems to have the install/bushing kits.
Bakers seems to have a few sets laying around. Until we get a full "refurbish" budget in the works we're going to settle for "pre-owned".
