I recently stepped up from a Ranger XL 4x4 Standard Cab to a 2009 Ranger XLT 4x4 SuperCab. Was a little disappointed with the low ground clearance of the new truck and wondered if there is any way to change that?
Also, a Ford parts shop that I visited told them that Ford does not supply a front mudflap for this truck. Do mudflaps from any earlier year trucks fit the 2009?
Don't bother with mudflaps if you plan on getting larger diameter wheels & tires. I had to remove the flaps I had put on mine after installing 32" tires (tires rubbed flaps when turning).
Ranger Ron, if your XL had larger than standard tires they may have helped give the truck extra ground clearance that you don't notice on the new one. The height difference could also be from a different height lifting block under the rear springs and a longer coil spring in front or the torsion bar being cranked up a bit more to make it level with the rear. But those are two different things you could do or have done to get more ground clearance on your 09. For the mud flaps, I think the 07 & 08 Rangers have the same fenders as the 09. If you stop by the dealership see if they have a copy of the Ranger Accessory Catalog that may have mud flaps listed in it.
The tires and everything else on my 1997 model were standard size.
I just can't get used to the side profile of my new truck- it puts you in mind of a 2WD model rather than a 4WD. According to the dimensions that Ford puts out, the height of the 2009 4WD Super Cab with 6' box is only 1.25" higher than the same model with 2WD.
