ok... currently i own a 95 f150 flareside with the 4.9... i will be getting some new tires soon, and would like to fit some 31's on it. i was told by the guy at the tire shop that i could fit 31's under it with the stock suspension, but he said that it might be a little cramped in the front... i had been toying with the idea of a leveling kit for a while, and i think that i am goin to go ahead and do it. now my question is what should i get??? i have looked all around and have found two kits that seem nice.... one has spacer to put inbeween the spring, and is made by a company called daystar. the other is a whole new spring for the front that i guess is either stiffer, or longer, and need no spacer, and is made by Rough Country suspension..does anyone know of which one will be the better one for my truck???? Also, once i get that do i have to get new shocks for the front end since it will be sitting a little higher..?? mine has a shock on each side of the spring. one is shorter than the other....so if i do have to do the shocks as well,, what frikin shocks should i get, and how do i figure out the length that mine needs?? i know this is askin for alot, but when i do this i wana make sure that i do it right... Thanks
31s will fit without problems. I would skip the leveling kit. I don't like them, they make the trucks look stupid when you load them up. Personally I think they look good with a slight rake anyway.
New springs are always better than spacers, in my opinion. Some will tell you spacers are better because they won't change the ride, but I just can't see how (aside from maybe ride) shoving something under your current springs is better than getting new ones. Either way is fine, but my vote is the springs.
Also, some people swap their front springs for those off of a 4x2 F250, I think they provide about 2" of lift in the front, but I would talk to someone who has done it to avoid getting that high nosed look.
i have a leveling kit on my f-150 4x4 and it works fine i have 33x12.5in tires under there and i think i could fit 35s with a little trimming you will need new shocks as well
k. i think it will be the spring kit that i will get then...thats finally settled. thanks for all the help. now as 1966Tbird said i will need new shocks.... i have the dual shock front end... when i look online everyplace seems to think that i have a single shock front. does anyone have any reccomendations on the shocks to replace with.....?? i was looking at the Rancho's, but i cant figure out how to get the right length for the front... the shock in front of the spring is longer in length than the one in back of the spring.... ANY advice on this would be MUCH appreciated. THanks
u really shouldnt need new shocks for a leveling kit, most are in the neighborhood of 1-2" max. i ran a rough country 2 1/2" lift with stock shocks for a while (i need to replace them so i went with a shock for a 4" lift). just be forwarned that u will need adjustable camber bushings to correct the allignment.
my quad shocks wouldnt even bolt up i measured them and bought the closest shocks to 2in longer as i could but you really only need one shock in front on each side
here is how it looks when finished
I'm with 1966Tbird on the gears, the stock gears are most likely to high to run 33s with any semblance of performance. What gears do you have? Anything higher (numerically lower) than 3.73s will be unacceptable with 33s. 4.10s would be ideal.
i had 3.73 gears and hated them i got 4.56 gears and they are perfect, 2200? rpms at 60 in OD 2600-2700 at 45mph in 3rd, but you do have a 6 that doesn't like high revs
I'm going to be getting the same rough country leveling kit, and was wondering if it affected the ride and handling? How do you like the rough country shocks? Thanks
