i have a 98 expy with a 4.6 and the cel came on so i checked the codes and 1506 (idle air control IAC over speed error) and 171&174 (system to lean bank 1&2) i sprayed carb cleaner and brake cleaner all around the manifold thinking it was the gaskets no change in idle i thought only the newer expy had gasket problems my question is can the IAC cause the lean problem or what eles can i check thanks
Sounds like a vacuum leak with those two lean codes, a vacuum leak can also cause idle speed problems
it seems to be idleing smooth and it's not idleing high i sprayed 1 full can of carb cleaner and half can of brake cleaner and nothing changed can a IAC show those two codes thanks
You cannot use the old method of spraying liquids on a fuel-injected engine to find vacuum leaks. The computer is too fast and you'll never hear any difference. You can WATCH the live data (short term fuel trims) and see the effect with a scan tool, but the "old" way is obsolete.
That said, your vacuum leak codes are probably the most common FAQ here. Poke around for two minutes with the SEARCH feature and you should find your answer.
