2000 Expedition

need some advice the wifes 2000 Expedition 5.4L Triton the #2 plug blew out. the plugs porcelin seperated that was weird never seen a plug do that? then a few weeks later the plug blew again but this time it was still in one piece the compression was escaping between the porcelin and the base of the plug. the plugs i use are autolite double platinum so i used a different brand using NGK Double Platinum this time the plug and insert blew. originally a local ford shop did the first Lock n stitch on the #2 plug that lasted a few months. the second time i had taking the rig to a local shop so he installed another insert that lasted a couple weeks. now the tech is saying to replace the cylinder head. but since doing some research i found this site and another called blownoutsparkplug.com. i read a thread that some used a different kind of insert i believe it was called timesert whats the difference between timesert and lock n stitch that the ford dealerships use. need some advice.

The tech might be right about having to replace the head. The insert should never blow out of there like yours did. The reason this usually happens is that the hole the insert is threaded into is slightly too large. In such a case, the only option is a head replacement. Rebuilt heads can be bought off eBay for $300-$400 instead of dishing out $1,200 for a new one.

You'll likely need the casting number off your old head.
