Buckin and Shakin

Hey guys. Been awhile. My truck was running pretty good and lately it cranks a little more on start up smokes a little would shake slightly at stop signs and a bit of surging at idle but yesterday when i would come to a stop it started shaking my the fillings out of my teeth. It s missing and fogging the mosquitos as i drive. Borrowed my mechanics scanner and got PO605 Injection Control Module ROM Error, PO 263 Cyl. # 1 Contribution/Balance Fault, PO 269 Cyl. # 3 Contribution/Fault. Before I yank injectors what do you guys think. Crap in my injectors or I was reading in the 6.0 side about the ICP sensor? I have Hypermax Stage 3 injectors, BTS Chip, cold air intake, upgraded turbo, Flo Pro exhaust, BTS transmission, a regulated fuel system and I m sure a few things I m forgetting. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

I'm betting the UVCH connections. They have a crappy little clip that works it's way loose. There are aftermarket fixes or there is the .25 mod. You grind part of a quarter down and stick in the clip to keep it from coming unlatched.

Absolutely, check the connection on the outside of the valve cover first.

If they are good, remove the valve cover and check the inside connections.

The harness and connectors inside are a common failure and can cause the exact symptoms you describe.

While you're in there, check the torque on the rockers and injectors, and as posted above, look into the .50 mod.

(BTW the gaskets are reusable)

Hope this helps.

Time to pull the passenger valve cover and check to see if the plug inside came loose.

Great news! If I didn t have bad luck... well you know the rest. Valve cover is out and the first rocker arm fell out! Come on! Can t I catch a break? The push rod is not bent but both studs were snapped off. Number 3 is all tight but i was showing a contribution fault there too. Not liking the feeling I m getting way way down there in my stomach. So now that we know it s going to cost me more than a quarter, what do you think? I knew that 10 grand would have swapped in a nice cummins! Haven t tried a compression test cuz I don t have a diesel tester. I ll try to locate one tomorrrow. Well throw em out there boys. What do ya got?

Were you able to get the broken pieces out of the head?
IMO, this looks worse than it really is.

Going to try extracting them tonight. One is broken flush the other is recessed a bit. Do you think this could be caused by a poor start? This winter once or twice she was a bit reluctant to start and I wonder if I had a liquid charge in there when she cranked up. Could that pop those studs? Thanks for your help.

No.
A lot of us here have found that the rocker pedastals like to work thier way a little loose.
In your situation, it happened a while ago and the rocker assembly was really moving around and it simply snapped the bolt.
I think if you get it repaired with a new rocker arm, bolts, and make sure all the pushrods are straight, it will be fine.

Hey all. Think I m all good. Decided that it was a loose pedestal on the rocker arm. Parts will be here tomorrow. The pedestal hole was oblonged on top and I m pretty sure that the bottom bolt snapped and the whole thing was rocking back and forth. I ll post back when she fires off and purrs like a kitten. Ok it s more of a growl but you know what I mean. Thanks for all of your help! You guys rock. This family is great.
