Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) Testing

I've been playing with my MAF for a few days now. Trying to nail down a power loss issue. I have been taking my voltage reading on Pin #5 (Signal from PCM). I originally thought I would take the voltage on Pin #4 which was the signal TO THE PCM. When taking voltage readings on PIN 4 I am only getting voltage readings in the hundreth scale. Not much voltage at all. Measuring .06 and .07 at idle. Pin 5 I am getting more voltage, at idle measuring 1.2V and 2K RPM measuring 2.0V. Just want to make sure I am measuring in the right location. Does anyone know for sure?

I think subford has the test data but if you go to fordfuelinjection.com I think you should get it there.

From Alldata I have the Voltage to Mass Air Flow Conversion table. I also have the diagram that shows the MAF Harness Connector and what pins go to what. My limited understanding leads be to believe that I should be taking voltage measurments from PIN 4 which is the Signal to the PCM but I am getting hardly any voltage on this wire. Maybe that is my problem but I just want someone to confirm with me which wire I should be taking this measurment on. Fordfuelinjection.com shows a similar connector diagram but does not spell out which wire to take voltage measurements on.

Apologies for duff info. You need subford to reply I would think.

You should be on pin 5 and it should be zero volts at KOEO and 0.8 VDC at hot idle.

KOEO on Pin 5, I am measuring .02V. Subford I don't know if you have seen this MAF chart before (link below), but this is on Alldata. It measure in gm's / sec. I had to convert it to lbs / min because that is what my scanner measures airflow at. Following this chart I am not matching up. Don't know how critical it is to be exact here with the chart. Here is what my readings were:

Taken in Neutral while parked
KOEO - .02V, Load 0%, 0 lbs/min
Hot Idle - 1.2V, Load 36%, 1.05 lbs/min (convt gm/sec = 7.94)
1500 RPM - 1.6V, Load 36%, 2.03 lbs/min (convt gm/sec = 15.35)
2000 RPM - 2.0V, Load 36%, 3.33 lbs/min (convt gm/sec = 25.17)

Driving down the road (Voltage not measured)
1500 RPM 35 mph = 43% Load, 3.3 lbs/min
1700 RPM, 55mph = 52.9% Load, 4.00 lbs/min

100% Load at WOT

Let me know your thoughts on this - thanks!

Just an update. I ordered an 85 MAF from Pro-M. Very nice piece. Calibrated for Cold Air. I built a Cold Air Kit for it consisting of a bottom tray that the filter and Washer/Overflow bottle fit in. Also the stock air intake snorkle from the grill is still used funneling air the outside air in underneath the K&N. Then I built the actual divider that the MAF and Filter mount to. The Air Charge sensor mounts directly behind the K&N so it is actually monitoring the temp going into the filter. On a day around 85 degree's the air flowing through the filter is around 70 - 75 degree's going down the road at 40+ mph. Stopped at a light the temp will get up into the high 90's and quickly drop once the truck starts going down the road. With Pro-M's MAF the truck runs much better, my load percentage is down in high 20% percentile at idle and high 30 to low 40's going down the road. The truck runs much better. I haven't towed with it yet - that will be the real test. It's still doesn't run like a big block should in my opinion. I do understand that it is pushing around 6500 lbs unloaded but I still expect more. I am still going to have it Dyno Calibrated. I still don't think the EEC-V is utilizing my exhaust and some of the other parts I have added. We will see how it runs after that. Below is link to a picture of my Red Neck Cold Air Kit. It is slotted on the right to allow the hood hinge to close down. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/a...pictureid=8632
