trans temp questions

I put in a BD X-monitor and use it with caution with my dp-tuner in tow mode while pulling loads. Not just little loads, real loads. I can watch my trans temp go to 195 very quick, even with an empty trailer. I seem to do best temp wise when I get up to speed as fast as I can and let the TC lockup. Then it will start to lower untill I have to start out again (stop signs, etc) I had to pull a 9x14 mini-barn 60 miles and at times I was down to 30 mph and 208 degrees trans temp (driving into the wind). Once I got to 50-55 mph (out of direct head wind), the TC would lockup and temps would go down.

Now, I never had a pyro problem, I dont think it ever goes over 1100 degrees (temp in exhaust manifold). My last truck had a manual trans and I always had to watch the pyro, it seemed to stay over 1400 (temp sensor in same place)

MY trans temp sensor is connected (spliced) to the factory wire in the transmission harness and goes direct to the x-monitor.

What is a safe range to run ? I try to keep under 195, but it will get there so fast with a trailer its not funny.

Do you have a larger than stock transmission cooler? Might be worth looking into.
I agree, in town or low speed on hills is where mine heats up, I think it has more to do with speed and moving air than the shifts. I really have never got mine over about 180 since I installed the 6.0 cooler.

Your reading from the TFT so your temps are fine.
Temps taken at the pressure port will be 15 to 20* on average cooler.

You can safely run 220F all day long with no problems at all. You can go to 250F for no more than 1/2 hour. If the converter won't lock and it's heating up turn off the overdrive. That may allow the converter to lock.

I think most will say over 210, 220 is trouble. I've never seen over 170 since I put in the 6.0 cooler and Mag Tek pan. My sensor is locaed right above pan, mid asing on drivers side. There is a plug from the factory there that you can unscew and use that port.
