Front hubs
Anyone have experience with Explorer front hub servicing? I had my '02 Explorer Limited 4X4 state inspected and the mechanic said the bearings in the front hubs were a little noisy but didn't have any play yet. He recommended servicing the hubs sooner rather than later. I'm unfamiliar with servicing the hubs. Can I remove and replace on my own? What about special tools? Are hubs disposable or can the local machine shop replace the bearings? Any help is appreciated.

Steve, that's awesome! I haven't actually looked at the hub disassembly yet but it sounds pretty straight forward. I have been reading and researching as much as possible. Does the spline nut require a special socket? Some parts places have suggested that I would need this. If that's the case, the local Auto Zone or Advance Auto offers free loaner tools. I'm going to look at it tonight as there were too many weekend projects to get to this one.
