1952 Carburetor Problem:
When I back my truck out into the street and put on brakes to start forward the engine almost cuts off.The idle speed drops down real slow and then it comes back up to normal! What could be the problem? 1952 F-1 with flathead.

Park the truck in the other direction so you don't have to back out! See, no problem!
Well the Best of the Best have already answered this one.
But just to be contrary, how is your clutch? Does it tend to hang when there is reverse tension on the drive line?
Next time you back out try double clutching and see what happens.

Yes, it seems to be worse when I am on a incline or steep drive.It is one of them great rebuilt carbs from DC.I have noticed some sediment in my fuel pump bowl and I have never had an inline filter installed.Maybe something got to the carb? I did finally put a filter in the bowl today.

Hey Ross, will it do that when going around long turns too - like freeway off ramps, etc.
My Edelbrock does that - but it has the reputaion for it.

Check for vacuum leaks.
Julie, Does the Edelbrock have a side-hung float? The Holley 94 pivots in the front, so would not be affected by cornering so much.

Beats me! It came newly rebuilt from the factory so I didn't want to take it apart to look inside - it's a new model 750 cfm almost identical to a Carter. If it spits, I just open the throttle a dash and it goes away - fast!
