Trans Drainback

My trans has a drainback issue. If the truck is cold you have to wait 10 minutes even in 90 degree weather before the truck will move. It does the same thing after the truck has been drove but the time is shorter. When I changed the fluid I found a small piece of aluminum casting in the pan and I am wondering if this could be the cause. Granted this isn't a bad thing because it keeps stupid people from run a cold diesel hard. The trans is a C6

There is a 1-way valve in the converter discharge port of the cooling lines, it's spring loaded so it prevents drainback - maybe that one died on you?
