sorry for all the recent questions just want to get this truck done right this week so i can get it on the road.
there is a sound coming from what sounds like the flywheel area underneath. it sounds like a quarter going threw the dryer. iv checked all over to see if anything external is loose and that doesnt seem to be the case. its very noticeable at idle.
i was thinking maybe throw out bearing or something really im not sure so any hints what to check would be appreciated.
Sounds like something in the bell housing getting kicked around.
Do it all the time?
Does pushing the clutch change it.
It's unlikely it's in the motor.
-Enjoy
fh : )_~
I second this nothing in the motor to come lose and make this kind of noise. I would suspect something with the clutch even the tranny before motor. My money is on the clutch a weight off the pressure plate can make a noise like that.
I've got he exact (!!!) same noise going on. I have a c6. It is deafening when you're under the truck right at the bell housing (on mine). I will send someone a fruit basket if they know what this is.
If you have a latter model IDI with a 5-speed and it is making a rattling noise it could be the dual mass flywheel or just tranny noise, The ZF-5 seems to be a rather noisy/rattly trans when it gets some miles on it.
The dual mass flywhell is usually the culprit though.
Mine's been that way for the whole year I've owned it. It's petty loud sometimes. Mine goes away if I rev it up to about 900 RPM or so. If it was something actually flying around in there somewhere obviously that wouldn't fix it.
What might have happened is the legendary spring blow out in the DMF, and a fragment of one of the springs is getting flung around inside the bell housing.

I'm 99.9999999% sure that's what mine is, it has a pretty good rattling noise sometimes. Increasing the RPMs always makes the noise go away.
Man dodge my starter puts out more than 90 rpm's. lol
What are you talking about?
I said 900 RPMs. (after I edited it)
The "0" on my keyboard doen't always react fast enough. It leaves a lot of "0"s off of stuff. Maybe it's my full-auto finger?
Of course your starter does more than 90 PRM, if it didn't that little drive gear would never get the flywheel/ring gear/torque converter going fast enought to get your truck started.
Now you tell me I have been outside adjusting the timing , turning the fuel down everything I could think of.
Plus now my post looks dumb I think you baited me.
I am never quick enough to get a post edited how did you do that.
