Ive been reading around here some, and i keep reading about how the 7.3 is prone to cavitation. I just bought a 93 f250 with the 7.3 n/a for $3. I was just curious what yall could tell me about these motors and cavitation??
yup a whole $3. Nothing wrong mechanically as far as i can tell. Body is in rough shape, but nothing i dont think can be fixed, or at least made to look better lol.
Im not sure, but i might be an F250 HD. It rides rougher than hell. Itll haul 2 tons easy and has no overload springs.
How many miles on the engine.....Mine was 6+ years old when I found out about SCAs and cavitation thanks to Ford not telling anyone. Since then I do SCA checks regularly and AF changes about 2-3 years.....
All 7.3 are not equally prone to cavitation as I know of several that wore out without any cavitation. This could be the water used or possibly minor flaws in the castings?
I try to never use anything but distilled water for water but if I had to top off I might have to put regular. In our big trucks we check sca's every oil change and keep on top of them and cavitation still will get one once in awhile so go figgure.
Cavitation sucks I should know. I bad thing is if it happend to the guy who you bought it from and he block sealed it than even if you run SCAs the block seal will only last so long. Thats what happend to the truck i bought. Get the just keep on top fof the SCAs and it should be fine they useualy cavitate threw around 200,000 if the SCAs were never used from what I've been told.
You should be able to get the test strips at any parts store.
