My brother is looking to buy an 04-05 not sure which F-150. The guy he is looking to get it from said it has a tick or knocj but runs fine. He said this is common in the 5.4. Is he right or full of $h!ster. I know the 03-04 cobras had a head tick but ive never heard anything about the 5.4. Not that i followed them that closely but you get what im saying.
but it isn't exactly a good thing. the cam phasers in the 04/05 trucks had an inferior part. as it wears, the noise gets worse.
some people are a-okay and never have an issue...some people suffer from motor failure.
it's a crap shoot, and you never know if you'll get hit or missed. I wouldn't let it dissuade your brother from the purchase...just be aware the motor has a potential issue. But if the price is right...go for it.
Motors are fairly cheap to replace anyways comparitively...Stuff gets expensive when you start tearing into them
My opinion is the price is too high. To compare, I got my '06 FX4 last November with 48k miles, impeccable care and all receipts for every scheduled service at Ford, and with a transferable 7 year 75k mile extended warranty. He asked $16.8k, but bargained down to $13k even.
I also think the '06 & newer trucks fixed many (but not all) of the earlier bugs - like the cam phasers. So maybe look for a newer truck or if he really likes this one, bargain hard for a few thousand less.
