hey guys,
im about to order a 4 inch mbrp exhaust for my '02 7.3 and im gonna order an intake to go along with it...figure its the makes the most sense to do that. ive heard the aFe intake system is by far the best and ive done my research and read all the facts and it sounds like it is. the only thing is $500 is a little steep for me so does anyone have experience with any other intake system? one that doesn't sacrifice quality but won't break my bank either. thanks
First off, Welcome to FTE
Second, who you ordering from? Maybe you should try me, LOL. You will probably save money. Just a thought. For the intake I can get you a great price on the AFE but would personally suggest the 6637. I offer a kit if you are interested.
i just ordered the 6637 kit with intake pipe and ccv mod from clay riffraff and cant wait to get it in, great guy to deal with and cheaper than the stage 1 afe setup.
I run an AFE Stage II and I'll tell ya what, while I like it, if I had it to do over again I would go with the 6637 and spend the left over money on something else.
I've run both the 6637 and the AFE Stage II. Performance-wise I couldn't tell a difference between the two. Power, mileage, EGT's, etc are all the same.
The AFE does muffle out some additional noise that the 6637 doesn't. So expect the 6637 to be louder. Some people hate the noise, others don't mind, so it's really a personal preference there.
Clay (Riffraff Performance), what is the price of the kit you showed? I'm very interested, as I own both a 99 7.3 Van AAken chipped, 4 inch exhaust and a 04 5.9 cummins dodge, also Van AAken chipped (4 inch exhaust is stock). Chris

We're not allowed to discuss pricing on the forums. Give Clay a call and he'll be more than happy to quote you a price. Clay 541.879.1052 www.RiffraffDiesel.com
I'm sure that you'll be happy with it.
Do what you want, but before you go spending good money on a 6637 or any other filter system I'd recommend you read up on them first to make sure you get what you want the first time.
I'd personally stay away from any filter that requires oiling such as the K&N filter and similar filters because they do a poor job at well, actually filtering the air. I'd do a 6637 filter before any of those because it's actually good at filtering the air. What it's also good at though, is allowing a lot more engine and turbo noise in the cab and sucking in hot under hood air. Having used one, I personally hated it and yanked it back off, went back to the factory air box and am now using the Ford AIS. Me personally, I want a filter that does a good job at filtering 1st and foremost; so naturally I'm a K&N style hater for anything other than a race car or hot street/show car.
So you make the decision and think for yourself.
