This is my center console lid. It's the only major flaw on the truck's interior, that I've spotted anyhow. Every scrapyard I call around here, when I ask, just laughs at me for wanting to buy the console lid (the rest of the console is fine and I don't need it nor want it). I've even volunteered to go to the yard and pull it myself - all it takes is 3 phillips head screws for all I can tell - and it's like pulling teeth to get that.
Anyhow - any other parts sources out there where I might be able to find one of these? I tried eBay, with no luck at the moment. I really, really hate the packing tape look...
You have some pretty sorry junk yards. I know people who go in and take what they want, big or little. You can recover it, or you can cover it. Dash hugger used to make console lid covers that match dash covers. Supreme seats makes covers to match their seat covers.
If you want to try it yourself, pick up a can of 3m super77, some material and a heavy duty stapler. Spray the adhesive on the console lid, stretch the material over it and staple it on the bottom.
I'll give that some serious consideration. Thanks guys. There is one yard I forgot to call so I'll do that Monday and if no luck there, then I'll go the self-cover route.
Do you have any pull-a-part yards out there? Here you just go out and remove any parts you want and go to the front counter and pay(they have a standardized price list so everything is the same price no matter the condition or what it came from-super cheap too).
Finally scored something to fix this. Friend of mine was browsing one night for stuff on his car and found a source for material on the cheap. He's ordering me some for mine as well as his own. Should be able to fix this for $10. I'll toss an "after" pic up if I remember.
liftnw8z, I hear ya, I am in your area and I think our scrap yards are overpriced anyways. Havent found anything that I needed any cheaper there than if I bought new aftermarket.
Hab - yeah it's difficult. You do occasionally score good deals, like last week when I needed a new foglight lens, got everything I needed underneath for $25 when the dealership wanted $104 for it. I wish there were a closer "pull-a-part" type yard...the only one I know of that is close is out toward Pittsburgh.
I don't think we even have any U-pull's down here anymore. They've all turned to call and we'll see if we have it and most now keep a computer inventory, not accurately of course.
I think part of the problem is that the junk yards finally figured that they were losing money with U-pulls but mostly liability & insurance issues. Its a shame cause I didn't mind going to the yards with Steve. Progress.
Thanks for that link, Rick - oddly enough you gave me a resource to pull my radio, because I need the codes off of it to hunt down a cable between it and the in-console CD changer. I already got the console re-covered and that part's in order...
