How do you feel about Ford's new vehicle warranty program as opposed to the others?
Do you think Ford would sell more vehicles if they had better or longer coverage?
It's consistant with Honda, Toy and Nissan but less comprehensive than Hyundai, GM, Chrysler, Kia and Isuzu.
I personally think tey should expand thier power train coverage to 7 years 100k miles if nothing else across the board to include diesels, the new Ecoboost, etc. I think it would give the diesel buyers a LOT more comfort given Ford's colorful recent history with Diesel engine failures.
I think the diesel warranty is fine, 5/100K is reasonable and you can buy the 7/200K on them. I also like the 5/60K on gas engines, especially on my Bullitt. It would be nice if the bumper to bumper was higher than 36/36 and since Ford is now #1 or near #1 in almost all reliability categories you'd think they could raise the bumper to bumper warranty and not lose a lot of money. Of course they just recently raised the powertrain warranty so maybe the bumper to bumper is still a year or two away.
I think it's decent, but they have to stay competetive, nows not the time to go to sleep when your piloting the ship. Ford agreed to make your vehicle payments for up to a year if you loose your job.
It just proves that Ford is in the top tier of automakers, not the bankrupt Chrysler and GM or Korean brands still trying to shake a poor image. You only need an extra long warranty if the public doesnt trust your product. If you sound desparate it can backfire and you actually lose sales.

Or, it proves that you really do stand behind what you build. How many diesel guys got screwed? How many 5.4L and V-10 engines were shooting out spark plugs?
Now we have this lubed for life transmission in the '09 F-150. I would prefer a more comprehensive and longer power train warranty.
some what off topic but I think Fords Warranty is better than what was offered on my Ford car.
Car was only covered 90 days or 4,000 miles new. Given this was in 56 but I have to say the new warranty of years is way better. Given they could make it longer (seen reports of people claiming to have broken the 1,000,000 mile mark on their vehicles without a engine rebuild.

Wow! That's a time travel if you ask me. My first new truck had a 12 / 12000 mile warranty and that was it. The difference was, the damned think could be worked on with less diagnostic equipment and without mortgaging your credit card.

Yep I have the orignal dealership certificate and it says that the car is covered for 90 days or 4,000 miles and to bring the car in at 1,000 miles to be serviced by a ford certified mechanic.
But I agree with the post above mine though if theres people getting 1,000,000 miles out of their car without a engine or transmission rebuild then I have to say 100,000 miles warranty is kind of "screwing the customer" but then again no automaker would extend it more than 100,000 miles cause people would keep their old cars and not buy their new cars. If I bought a new car that could go 1,000,000 miles I would say thats new car is the last car ill ever buy.

I think Chrysler and GM have an interesting strategy going on. They sell a vehicle, warranty as they will and get the customer used to having some very extended warranty coverage. Suddenly, Oops, the car have 90k on it and my warranty is about to expire. "honey what should we do"? Well dear, lets get another new GM / Chrysler with that awesome warranty.
I think it gets people in the mindset that an extended factory warranty is a must in order to have peace of mind. It certainly does help.
It does help. Thats why I dont think they will take it over 100,000 mile warranty cause then why would people want to buy new if they can keep their car longer.
But theres people around here in my sub division they get a brand new car every 3 to 4 years regardless how much they drive it they just get a new one cause they want new.
To me a car is just transportation. As long as it is dependable and not trashy looking and is clean and not beat up I will drive it any place. It could be 40 years old for all I care.
I agree, thats why I prefer older cars because lets face it you can generally geta old car after it breaks down back up and running with simple tools. A new car good luck with that.
That 88 Escort I got when my sister got it new it took months before ford finally stepped in and told the dealership to fix the car at all costs. The car had some faulty fuel system where the fuel system would shut down and it would stay shut down for 30 or so minutes.
Now my78 Cougar had a problem and stalled at a red light but I was able to get the car running and get it home by holding foot on te brake and reving the engine up some. The stupid EGR valve stuck open. I could have cleaned the carbon off but I just tossed it to the side and installed a new one. I mean after all that EGR valve had the orignal 1978 Ford parts number on the sticker.
