Engine Jumping
Got a 1992 F-150 XLT, V8 5.0L with 204,000 miles. Just bought the truck from a dealer about a week ago. Ran fine when I test drove it. Felt like the spark plugs were bad but thats about it. After driving it around a bit and kinda getting a feel for it the I noticed the spark plugs being out and the engine shifting extremely hard when accelerating fast. I replaced all the spark plugs and wires. Test drove it and it seemed fine for a little. Then I noticed the engine jumping around 30-40 mph when I am just barely applying gas. It runs great when I am accelerating or not applying gas but when I just stay at 30-40 mph it shifts up and jumps. Basically it feels like when you put a manual transmision into 5th gear and try to go 20 mph like that, only it is a lot rougher. Someone suggested it maybe the fuel pump. I didn't know if it could be a problem with the tranny. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

what tranny is it? i had a 91 150 that did that but not as rough as you describe. i had the tranny rebuilt and it was fine for a couple days and it started doing it again, so i took it back and they put a new torque converter on it and it seemed to smooth out.
