Excursion - looking to buy...

So I'm hooked on the idea of a cummins swap into an Ex for tow duty. My boat probably wont be done until next summer so I am thinking this would be a great project for the winter.

So my plan is to buy a reasonable gas (V8 or V10) Excursion now and put some miles on it, lift, etc.

What is a reasonable price to pay for a clean gas, 4x4 Ex? I've seen several for under $6k but they don't seem to last very long. Where's the best place to look in this price range? Tried craigslist but nothing in my area. Anyone know of one? Projects ok as long as they are clean.

I have been considering that as well since the 7.3 seems like a fine motor.

Just something about the cummins and all the power that comes along with it makes it seem worthwhile.

I'll be towing 10k so the added power would be helpful.

Anyone know if the brakes and diffs are all the same whether gas or diesel? Don't care about gear ratio just talking model and size.

As far as I know the diffs and brakes are the same as far as rotor size and calipers the power assist is different on gas and diesels

Well the hassle of doing the swap and getting all the electronics working afterwards you really would be better off buying the 7.3 up front.. there are so many upgrades and mods available the amount of torque and HP are pretty easy to get carried away. lots of folks are towing 10K plus with their Ex's very happily
Here is one local to me that seems to be a decent priced fairly low mile 7.32001 Ford Excursion

If you or anyone thinks they are really interested I do vehicle inspections and could go take a closer look at it

Try autotrader.com this is where I found mine, you can search local or out to any distance you want. You can also reduce your search by year, Model, etc.
