Buying an Ex

Looking into buying an excursion soon. My tried and true F150 is finally in need of replacement. Ideally I would get the diesel but not in my price range by a long shot, so the V10 it is. I worked for Ford until 06 so I have a good feel for what went wrong, but they were still newish at the time. Guys that have had them for a while is there anything in particular I should look out for, other than normal problems? I own my own service station so the work isn't a big deal, just don't want to buy a mess. I tow a 27 foot travel trailer with my 150 now so not expecting issues towing with the ex, but for sure don't want the 5.4. I found one a few hours away for an excellent price, almost to good. Anyone in the New England area ever heard of A Better Way Wholesale supposedly they are a huge dealer? Looks like a good deal but don't want to drive 4 hours to find out it is no good.

The "normal" problems on the V10 are blown out spark plugs, bad COP's and nothing else that I can think of, it's a pretty bulletproof engine. The trans can be worn and have soft shifts. Ball joints, u joints, carrier bearing, worn out bump stops, soft springs (stock) are all the I know can need attention.

Worn front suspension, too little castor and worn steering box can cause wandering as it is commonly called. If you hold the steering wheel while driving down road there is play in the steering wheel where you can turn it a little left or right and it will still track straight. There are many threads on here and elsewhere to address the soft springs and steering wander.

Low price, low miles. Look over the Auto Check, have a dealer run an OASIS report, if clear and the undercarriage is not a bucket of rust buy it.

Had a friend at Ford run an Oasis, also got the car fax. It was actually originally delivered to the Ford dealer I worked at, I could have done the pdi. Spent it's life in Jersey, one owner vehicle. No major issues, and dealer serviced. Think I'm going for a drive later this week. Hoping to be able to get $1000 out of my truck, she has served me well, but body rot is getting bad.
