The 6637 air intake mod will probably solve the black smoke "problem".. which is relative term coming from a guy with Smoke Show as one of my tunes. Black smoke is not bad for your engine it is just excess buned fuel. I recommend a Phoenix Chip from Bill at PHP.
i have a afe intake on the truck already and it has a 5inch exhaust and it does have gauges, boost gauge, trans temp gauge, and pyrometer gauge witch isnt working? i dunno why? the guy i bought the truck from says he thinks the sensor went bad on it.

The reason DP is more popular than Power Hungry Performance - Feed your hunger for POWER! Check out our Gryphon Programmer for Ford vehicles! is that Bill only started PHP last year and DP has been selling his chips since 2003. however Bill at PHP has been tuning since 1996 and HE was the one who taught Jody at DP how to tune... However Bill was working for EDGE in Utah for the last several years and worked for Superchips prior to that. So do your research before deciding what chip is best for you...
as far as the pyro,, snap a picture of the module if you get a chance, might be able to talk you through troubleshooting it..
Just a thought, if whomever already went through all of that, and you have smoke.. I am thinking you may have something else done to your truck..
well im new to diesels and i wouldnt know what to take a picture of for the pyrometer lol.... and how would i know if there was anything else done to it? thanks... what turbo is on the 7.3l stock?

I didn't know Bill was out of the custom tuning for the 7.3 for that long. I would think tuning for EDGE and Superchip is a lot different then custom tuning for the 7.3. I think lots of new things have come into play with the tuning of the 7.3 that Jody is doing now, compared to years ago. But, I know nothing about tuning these engines.
Sorry, I was trying to copy a picture for you, but I am going to give you a link instead, Look at the pyro for a red and yellow wire, if you use a DVM check the resistance, start teh truck and the resiistance will increase.. IF it does not, the pyro is "open" If you have reisistance, check with one wire to the housing of the pyro for resistance, if you have say below .5k, check with the other lead, if it shows less then .2k there could be a short there.. It is reare.. but has happened. Normally because something gets smaked into the thermo coupling.. That doesnt normally happen on a truck. http://www.dieselmanor.com/diy/PSD3-...73gauge-p1.htm
im in brunswick,ohio..ill check these pictures out one more time and go look at my truck real fast...the pyrometer i have now doesnt work at all it just lights up.
Thats her!!, now, somewhere up from there, there should be to screws and nuts, if you can remove them and put a meter accross those leads, watch the resistance as the truck warms up.. that will let you know if it is truelly the sensor.
ok ill go check it out to see if i can find the screws and nuts where would they be near? also how would i tell if my truck has a chip or anything done to it that would make it blow black smoke?... thanks for all the help

One thing we need to try to get you to do, is move your pyro probe to the exhaust manifold or up-pipe on the drivers side. Your probe is in the down pipe and needs to be closer to the pistons.
