E4OD is the predecessor to the 4R100 and much older technology. The 5R110 is the 6.0 diesel version of the Torqshift and the 5R110W is the V10 and 5.4 version.
If you have a 6.0 equipped truck, (auto of course), then you have the 5R110.
The E4OD was used with the pre super duty 7.3's and other older pre-triton gassers. The 6.0's only ever came with the 5R110 (unless they had a manuel tranny). The 5R110 and the 6.0 were developed in conjunction with each other. When you go to get fluid, check with Oriellys, they have it significantly cheaper than Ford, and usually stock at least a case. You'll have to ask about it though, as it's often stored in the back. Oh, and whatever you do don't use Mercon V, these trannys require ONLY MERCON SP! Good Luck!
Thanks for the help. I cant get a straight answer from the local parts store so im going to just buy the parts from the dealer so I know its right!! Im going to pick up sway bar end links and sway bar bushings while im there...
I called my local Advance Auto parts and they told me there were 2 diff types of transmissions:
E40D
and
5R110W
How do I determine which one I have? I need to order the parts so I can service my transmission on Monday.
Thank you,
Bob
The best way is to not call Advance Auto. They don't have a clue. The only automatic available with the 6.0L was the 5R110, also known as the TorqShift. 1997 was the last year for the E4OD.

No, not really. There is only one version of the trans. Sometimes it's called 5R110W and sometimes 5R110. It's all the same trans. W in Ford trans speak means wide ratio gearset. All TorqShifts of a given year have the same ratios, regardless of whether they are diesel or gas transmissions. There have been minor gear ratio changes over the years.
