I am asking this in this forum because I think my '83 Lincoln Town Car has the same transmission as the F100-F150 1980-86-(the AOD) (4speed automatic):
Anyway the trans seems to be doing something kind of weird between 2-3 and 3-4 shift under a load-it seems to shudder real bad kind of like it can't deceide if it wants to go into the gear or not.
If I start off from a dead stop and accelerate normally it shifts very smooth through all gears, but slow down for someone turning in front of me then accellerate from there it does the above described herky-jerky.
Qusetion is there any adjustment (TV cable may be) (which btw I have no experiance with at all) or do I dare put some type of additive in the trans??
We just serviced the trans about 5k miles ago with fresh fluid & filter.
Thanks for any help or suggestions!
If it's an AOD, you might have an issue with the throttle valve cable. There is a small plastic bushing where the cable attaches to the throttle assembly. This controls shift points and downshifting (passing gear). If this bushing is worn out or missing, it will cause your transmission to act strangely, and can ultimately lead to trans failure.
