Guys,
How do you removed the AIH without setting a code? I saw two lines red and black . The red line is connected to the solonoid and the black one is connected next to the ICP sensor. Will I notice any difference in the truck? Thank you
You can put a 470 ohm resistor between the switched side of the relay & ground to hide the code. But it's a "soft" code meaning it's just stored -- no CEL. The red line supplies battery voltage from the relay to the heater, the black line is ground. It's just a big coil-shaped resistor that gets hot when voltage flows through it, so when you replace it with a much higher value resistor, less current is allowed to flow, but it's enough to fool the PCM.
No real noticeable difference -- it's just a waste of space in the intake. Might as well get rid of that big chunk of metal sticking out in the intake. I simply cut the resistor wire off, cracked the ceramic insulation with pliers, sawed off the stand-off flush with the base, and screwed it back in place. A plug with a nice port for your boost gauge is more elegant though.
What does this do to your cold weather starting? It tends to get cold in the north you know!
It has NO effect on starting. The AIH relay does not even engage until after the truck has started.
Ford put it there to assist in getting rid of a little smoke during the first few minutes of a cold start to please grandma and most of the enviro-kooks.
