FMX Question

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Nov-02 AT 06:11 PM (EST)]Briefly, the truck pulled into the garage after driving home from work.

Next morning shifted from park to reverse - did not move.

Tried all other gears - did not move.

Found the cable from the B&M shifter was broken.

Replaced the B&M with a linage type shifter. To do this I had to drill a hole in the trans' shift arm to mount the linkage.

Now no matter what gear position the trans lever is (not the shifter's lever)- it goes foward.

How could I have screwed this up? It had park when parked but now no reverse or neutral or park.

FMX Question

Turn the torque converter in the direction of engine rotation. By hand. The pump will flow tranny fluid out (probably the top conn). The return just dumps into the pan.
The conns at the radiator, if crossflow, should have the hot fluid coming in at the top, and obviously, the cooler fluid out the bottom.

Re the linkage ?. You probably have the linkage in the wrong spot relative to the shift lever. You haveta have the lever in Park, and then move the linkage on the side of the trans to Park, then hook them together... I suppose it is possible that when the other linkage went blooey it moved the spool valve too far inside the valve body. It's been too long since I was inside a FMX. Generally, the lever engages the spool valve by fitting between two 'spools' on the valve. It CAN get out of position if you mumble around enough.

FMX Question

I have taken a look at my setup - both lines enter the bottom of the radiator. The most forward line on the trans enters the drivers side.

I don't know what radiator is in the truck so this may be of little help - sorry.

FMX Question

Tomw - thanks for the info. Since the trans lever was in park I think the later happened - If it is out of "sync" can that be put back or might that indicate some new parts are needed?
