I wanted to warn any of my Super Duty brethren about a real shoddy product out there. My 09 came with Sync and I was excited as for once with a new vehicle, I wouldn't have to buy an Ipod integration kit. I do however, have an older Ipod, and according to the Sync web site, I needed a special cable to assure full functionality. I followed the link on the Sync web site as there is no other place on the internet to buy one than the place they send you too. OK, fine, a $50 cable is cheaper than an integration kit and a heck of a lot easier to use. Plug and play... or so I thought. I got it in the mail and connected my new toy to my old one. Works great. Sounds great. Until I so much as breath on the connection at the ipod's base. In looking at the connection I could see the cable did not seat completely and no amount of pushing it in helps. It almost comes out at an angle. Also, it lacks the locking feature of all other ipod cables that requires two little buttons to be pushed in on the sides of the connector for it to be released. The worst it when you try to push it in to seat it, the signal is lost and the whole linking up process has to start over. This also happens whenever I hit a bump in the road. (SD's aren't known for their silky smooth ride, so this happens often.) I have no idea if this is how they all are or if I have a defective one as redcorestore.com will not respond to any of my three emails and do not list any other contact information on their very limited web site. So, bottom line, $50 for a cable that barely works sitting very still in a garage. For the amount of songs I have on my ipod, I would have been better off spending $100 and getting a new low capacity ipod that doesn't require an additional cable and giving my old one to my nephew or something. What a waste. I would advise anyone looking to "Sync their ride" to look elseware.
I know how you feel. I have a 3rd gen Ipod and most all of the interfaces say they will connect. I haven't found one yet that will work with my antique.
My gen 4 works great with the cable. Just be vewy vewy quiet and still. Kind like how grandma used to talk of the days with real candles on the Christmas tree...
