The box ran before I pulled the engine, and shift mechanism could be moved to roll truck back and forth in the driveway.
Now at the end of all the mods to the engine, it won't budge.
It's a cable shift linkage cobbled together by a prior owner, but it should work until I can fix the cab floor and mount a B&M Z-gate.
The shift rod appears to have a neutral safety switch assembly on it, I won't even attempt to describe the aborted shift lever that's on it - but like I said it ought to work for now. And I haven't looked yet, but there should be a vacuum modulator on the other side of the tranny which I know for sure is not connected.
I'm out of daylight, and out of time! Tomorrow I have to go pick up a moving van!
Everything else is working, could it be that the vacuum modulator is not allowing the transmission to be shifted out of park? If that's the case - I just might get out of this with everything except my pride intact.
I've got some line, I'll hook it up tomorrow after I get the moving van here.
definately not the modulator- if it's on a hill, thses things can be a pain to get out of park, especially without the leverage that a stock linkage gives you. try blocking the wheels, and work the linkage from underneath, or have someone push it forward or backwards a little while you tug on the aborted lever.
Terrific. The shifter busted right where the cable sheath locks into place. I've repaired it with epoxy, bolts, and a piece of angle iron but it's not re-installed yet.
Before I do this again, are there any second opinions?
I pulled out the whole retched mess and unjammed it enough to hopefully get drive, neutral, and reverse until I can finish things up in San Diego.
Who knows? Maybe I'll end up stuffing that mustang 5-speed box I had set aside into it. I don't care, as long as it makes it across country at this point.
