my truck blows blue smoke everytime i start it, and accelerate hard, but does not do this any other time. i have good compression and oil pressure, i checked the crankcase vent. what is the most common reason 4 this other than bad rings?
my f-250 was doing the same thing. I had oil leak into the compressor of my turbo. so the turbo was sucking in oil and burning a whiteish blue smoke. check your intake and your pipe that leads to you intercooler for oil if you find any that is your problem, and it needs to be rebuilt or buy a new one.
i changed oil on the 11th of april and i have put a half a quart in since. but my pan gasket leaks, so i figured that would be normal. it only blows blue smoke when i first start it and when i use more than 1/3 throttle. (my truck is naturally aspirated)
I'm thinking your smoke on acceleration is fuel to air, how is your air cleaner and have you cut the soup bowl out of your air cleaner.
The cdr is your crankase vent located behind the air cleaner, about the size of a tuna can. This should be cleaned in gas soak it and swish it around until it is shiny on the inside every two oil changes. never blow compressed air in it it will rupture the diaphram and be useless. There is a small hole in the top you can blow in it and tell if the diaphram is working.
i changed the air filter when i changed the oil, i checked the crankcase vent , but i didnt do all of that, i will try that & see if it cures the problem. what do you mean cut the bowl out of the air cleaner? i've never heard of that. when i bought my truck it didnt have a snorkle attached to the air cleaner. explain more about the air cleaner.
On the inside of the lid to the air cleaner there is a soupbowl looking part that sticks down inside the air filter. This may have already been removed as that is the first mod most people makes it restricks the air some.
Valve seals are a possibility, but that generally goes away or at least reduces once the EGTs get up. Timing being off could also do it. Bad oil control at one of the pistons could do it, but that would also get less visible as you drive. Oil was changed recently, but how many miles did you put on it since then?
My truck engine had 410 or higher on all the pistons before it was rebuilt but still went though 1 qt every 200 miles on average thanks to completely rotted out oil seals on the valve stems. Cleaning the CRD more often then normal did help control the oil consumption, but it was still high.
I was able to get my truck to make some blue smoke when the timing was (in my case) too far advanced and the engine was under load. Too far retarded could also do it in theory.
If the truck makes about as much noise as a 7.3L powerstroke, then my bet is on timing too far advanced.
